We know that , 1/x = R*Z²*[1/(n1)²-1/(n2)²] where x is the wavelength.

1/x1 = R*Z²*[1/(1)²-1/(m+1)²]                       ............for mth line of lyman series

1/x2 = R*Z²*[1/(2)²-1/(m+2)²]                    ............for mth line of balmer series

To find x1/x2,

Divide the above equations , we get

x2/x1 = [1/(1)²-1/(m+1)²] / [1/(2)²-1/(m+2)²]

Solving the above equation , we get

x1/x2 = (m+1)²×(m+4) / 4(m+2)³
