Given:

The thickness of the slab is= 7 cm

The vertical shift is = 4 cm

To find:

The refractive index of the glass slab.

Solution:

The relationship between the thickness of glass slab, refractive index of glass slab and its vertical shift is:

 \delta  = t( \mu - 1)

On substituting the values in the equation, we get:

4 = 7( \mu - 1)

 \frac{4}{7}  =  \mu - 1

0.57 =  \mu - 1

 \mu = 1.57

Thus, the value of refractive index of the glass slab is 1.57.
