Answer:

n = c/v = velocity of light in vaccum / velocity of light through denser media ( slab )

=> n ( Refractive index ) = 3*10^8 / 2*10^8

=> n = 3/2

\huge  {\red{\boxed{ \overline{ \underline{ \mid\mathfrak{\blue{An}}{\mathrm{\green{sw}}{ \sf{\pink{er}}}   \gray{\colon}\mid}}}}}}

Given :

  • Speed of Light in glass slab is 2 × 10^8 m/s
  • Speed of light in air = 3 × 10^8 m/s

To Find :

  • Refractive Index

________________________

Solution :

Formula for Refractive Index is :

\large {\boxed{\sf{\mu \: = \: \dfrac{Speed \: in \: Air}{Speed \: in \: medium}}}} \\ \\ \implies {\sf{\mu \: = \: \dfrac{2 \: \times \: 10^8}{3 \: \times \: 10^8}}} \\ \\ \implies {\sf{\mu \: = \: \dfrac{3}{2}}} \\ \\ \implies {\sf{\mu \: = \: 1.5}}

______________________________

  • Refractive index is defined as ratio of speed of light in air to medium.

  • Denoted by μ (mu) .

  • It have no units means unit less.
