there is 3 resistance between the X and Y.

in the circuit 4 and 12 ohm are in parallel combinations,

so. 1/R' = 1/4 + 1/12

1/R' = 3/12 + 1/12

1/R' = 4/12 = 1/3

R' = 3 ohm

after that , another 4 ohm and R' = 3 ohm are connected in series ,

so. R" = 3 + 4

R" = 7 ohm...

so the equivalent resistance of the circuit is 7 ohm.
