for this question only SOH for the first triangle and TOA for the second triangle.

a. Sin = Opposite Angle ÷ Hypotnious

$\frac{ \sin(12) }{1} = \frac{8}{x} \\ \\ \frac{8}{ \sin(12) } = \frac{ \sin(12)x }{ \sin(12) } \\ \\ x = 38.47$

38.47 in 3 significant figures is 38.5

b. Tan = Opposite Angle ÷ Adjusent

$\frac{ \tan(40) }{1} = \frac{x}{15} \\ \\ x = 15\tan(40) \\ \\ x = 12.58$

12.58 on 3 significant figures is 12.6
