Given :

Energy possess by the electron , E=60\ eV .

To Find :

The speed of electron .

Solution :

Converting energy in eV to Joule .

E=60\times 1.6\times 10^{-19}\ J\\E=9.6\times 10^{-18}\ J

We know , kinetic energy is given by :

E=\dfrac{mv^2}{2}

Therefore , v=\sqrt{\dfrac{2E}{m}}        ....( 1 )

Here , m is mass of electron and equal to m=9.1\times 10^{-31}\ kg .

Putting value of E and m in equation 1 .

We get ,

v=\sqrt{\dfrac{2\times 9.6\times 10^{-18}}{9.1\times 10^{-31}}}\\\\v=4.59\times 10^6\ m/s

Therefore , the speed of an electron is 4.59\times 10^6\ m/s .
