Given :   2,4,8,6,10,12

To Find : standard deviation

Solution:

2,4,8,6,10,12

Mean = (2 + 4 +  8 + 6 + 10 + 12)/6

= 42/6

= 7

xi       xi  - Mean    (xi  - Mean)²

2          -5              25

4          -3                9

8           1                 1

6           -1                1

10          3                9

12          5              25

    Total                  70

standard deviation of Sample = √(∑ ( | xi - mean| )² /(n-1))

= √(70/(6-1))

= √(70/5)

= √14

= 3.74

standard deviation of population = √(∑ ( | xi - mean| )² /n)

= √(70/6)

= 3.42
