Calculate the temperature at which the RMSVelocity of a hydrogen molecule will be equal to the orbital velocity of earth's Satellite ( i.e 8km/s )

Given:

The orbital velocity of the earth's satellite is 8 Km/sec.

To find:

The temperature of the rms velocity.

Solution:

The formula of rms velocity is

v=\sqrt{3RT/M}

Now the orbital velocity is

v=√gR= 7.9×10³

Equating both the above equation.

\sqrt{3RT/M}=7.6×10³

T=(7.9×10³)²/3×(8×10³)

T=2.5×10³

T=2500 K

So the temperature is 2500 K
