Answer:

The total no. of electrons flowing through a circuit in 20 mins and 40s, if a current of 40 µA flows through the circuit is  3.1\times 10^{17} electrons

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Let I be the current flowing, Q be the total charge of electrons and t be the time.

       Then, we have the expression,

       I=\frac{Q}{t}

       Or

       Q = It            ...(1)

       Here Q is given by the expression,

       Q = ne

       Or

       n= \frac{Q}{e}             ...(2)

       Where e is the charge of one electron and n is the number of electrons.

  • In the question, it is given that,

       t = 20min\ 40 s= (20\times 60)+40= 1240s

      I = 40\mu A = 40\times 10^{-6} A

       e = 1.6\times 10^{-19}C

      Substitute these values into equation (1)

      Q =  (40\times 10^{-6 }) \times 1240 = 0.0496 C

      Then equation(2) becomes,

      n= \frac{0.0496}{1.6\times 10^-19}= 3.1\times 10^{17} electrons
