Calculate the valency of copper in copper sulphide Cu2 S and also in copper

CuCl2=0   [Overall charge is neutral]

⇒2×x+2×(−1)=0   [x=valency of copper and (-1) charge of chlorine]

⇒2x+(−2)=0

⇒2x=+2

∴x=22=1

Hence, valency of Cu in cuprous chloride is 1.
