by the formula ,
g=G.M1.M2/r^2

assume an object at just the surface of the earth whose relative weigh is negligible in respect of earth.

hence,
g=G.M/r^2
  =6.7* 10^-11.6* 10^24/[6.4*10^6]^2
  =[6.7*6/40.96] * 10
  =[40.2/40.96] * 10
  =0.98144 *10 m/s
  = 9.8 m/s
