Given:-
→Mass of moon(Mₘ)=7.4×10²²kg
→Radius of moon(Rₘ)=1.74×10⁶m
To find:-
→Value of g(acceleration due to gravity) on the
surface of moon(gₘ)
Solution:-
→Value of G= 6.67×10⁻¹¹ Nm²/kg²
We know that:-
=>g=GM/R²
Thus:-
=>gₘ= GMₘ/R²ₘ
=>gₘ= 6.67×10⁻¹¹×7.4×10²²/(1.74×10×6)²
=>gₘ = (6.67×7.4/1.74×1.74)×(10⁻¹¹×10²²/10⁶×10⁶)
=>gₘ = 1.6m/s²
Thus,value of 'g' on the surface of moon
is 1.6m/s².
Some Extra Information:-
•Value of g on earth's surface is 9.8m/s².
•Value of g on the surface of moon is approximately 1/6 of the value of g on the surface of earth.
∴gₘ= gₑ/6
•The value of g is more at the equator than the poles.
•The value of g decreases with height.
•Value of g is zero at the centre of the earth.
