Question :---- Calculate the value of the median from the following: 5, 7, 9, 12, 11, 8, 7, 15, 25 ?

Concept and Formula used :---

Median :--- The median of a set of data is the middle-most number in the set. The median is also the number that is halfway into the set.

→ To find the median, the data should first be arranged in order from least to greatest.

→ If there is an odd number of terms, the median is the center term. = (n+1)/2 th term .

→ If there is an even number of terms, add the two middle terms and divide by 2 = {(n/2 term)+(n/2+1) term}/2

_____________________________

Solution :---

Given values are :-- 5, 7, 9, 12, 11, 8, 7, 15, 25

First arranging them in increasing order we get :--

5 , 7 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 11 , 12, 15 , 25 . { From Least to greatest. }

Now, Number of terms are, n = 9 = Odd Number .

So, as Told above If there is an odd number of terms, the median is the center term. = (n+1)/2 th term.

Median = (9+1)/2 th term .

→ Median = (10/2) th term.

→ Median = 5th term..

So, in 5 , 7 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 11 , 12, 15 , 25 our 5th term is = 9 .

Hence, Median of following data is 9..
