Answer :

Mass of ethane = 60g

We have to find volume of the given amount of ethane at STP.

Molecular formula :

  • C₂H

Molar mass :

⭆ 2(C) + 6(H)

⭆ 2(12) + 6(1)

⭆ 24 + 6

30 g/mol

∴ 30 g of ethane occupies 22.4L volume at STP

Volume occupied by 60g of ethane at STP,

  • V = 60/30 × 22.4
  • V = 2 × 22.4
  • V = 44.8 L

Remember :

➠ 1m³ = 1000L

1dm³ = 1L

➠ 1cm³ = 1mL

∴ Volume of ethane at STP = 44.8dm³

Volume of 60 g of Ethane at STP:

  • Moles of Ethane = 60/30 = 2 moles.

Now, we know that:

  • 1 mole of gas occupies 22.4 litres volume at STP.

So, 2 moles of Ethane will occupy :

 = 22.4 \times 2 = 44.8 \: litres

  • Now, 1 litre = 1 dm³ (please remember this conversion).

  • So, volume of Ethane = 44.8 dm³.
