The volume of gas produced is 2.24 L.

  • The decomposition reaction of calcium carbonate is given below.
  • CaCO3 ------> CO2 + CaO
  • Now calculate the molar mass of calcium carbonate i.e. CaCO3
  • Molar mass of CaCO3 is = 40 + 12 + 16 x 3 = 100g
  • As we know that 100g of CaCO3 produces 1 mol of carbon dioxide CO2 i.e. 22.4 L
  • Now 10 g of CaCO3 will produce 22.4 / 100 x 10 = 2.24 L
