By definiation , 5 volume H2O2 solutions means that 1 L of 5 volume H2O2 solution on decomposition produces 5 L of O2 at NTP.
Consider the decompositon reaction,
2H2O2→2H2O+O2
2×34g→22.7 L at NTP
Now 22.7 L O2 at NTP will be obtained from H2O2 =68 g
∴5L of O2 at NTP will be obtained from H2O2=68×522.7g
=14.98g=15g
But 5 L of O2 at NTP is produced from 1 L of 5 volume H2O2
∴ Strength of H2O2 solution =15gL−1
or percentage strength of H2O2 solution =151000×100=1.5%
