Since their stomata are closed during the day, CO2 cannot enter the leaves so photosynthesis cannot occur because light reactions are needed to provide the chloroplasts with its needed ATP and NADPH. So during the night, when the stomata is open it takes in the CO2 and stores it in organic acids.
