In our surroundings, we may observe many things changing their state.

In them, Camphor is one of the example which turns from solid to gas.

  • Camphor disappears if we leave it in air for sometime
  • Sublimation takes place here.

Sublimation :

  • Changing of state from solid to gas directly is called sublimation.
  • This change of state occurs due to variations in temperature, pressure etc..
  • Particles of camphor turn into gaseous form and mixes with air.
  • This is why camphor disappears.

Note :

  • Camphor must be stored in an air tight container to avoid this.

Examples :

  • Dry ice
  • Moth balls
  • Room fresheners
