No, there is no converging or diverging when a lens is formed of the same material as the medium. As a result, a lens behaves more like a glass slab than a lens.

No, a lens cannot be used in the medium of which it is made.

  • A lens works because of the bending of light i.e. refraction.
  • Refraction occurs because of the change in the speed of light when light travels between different media.
  • If we use it in the same medium of which it is made, there will be no change in medium and so the speed of light will remain the same.
  • So there would not be any bending of light and the lens will not be useful.
