Nice question.

Machine = logic execution

Machine = insensitive zero IQ figure.

I'll share a story.

⏩There was this boy, who was brought up by his uncle. Suddenly, the uncle becomes ill. Very ill. His brain fluid was infected and his head swelled to double its size.

The boy approaches his teacher and narrates everything to him.

⏩Now, students often make excuses. So, just to be sure, the teacher visits the boy's house to confirm. Takes a photographer of his uncle with him and his medical reports. The boy was told to take a leave the next day.

⏩Next day, the teacher calls a meeting with the HOD and the teachers involved with the class to which that boy belonged. Photographs taken day before were shared with everyone.

⏩The teachers came to a conclusion, that the boy would be marked present with a red ink for the classes he's missing. The teachers made a note to teach him at the time convenient to the boy. The teachers made their time table available to the student, so that he could plan accordingly.

The boy attended the classes he could, and approached the teachers for the missed lectures.

In the semester examination, that boy scored 78.9%. 3rd topper of class.

Fast forward 2 years.

⏩The teacher who visited him, was sharing a meal with his friend at Dominos. Having a fun time, laughing, calling names to each other. Suddenly that teacher screamed and jumped on his chair. Something had brushed his feet. He saw, there was this fellow touching his feet and smiling. The teacher was frightened due to the suddenness of the situation.

The fellow was the same boy from the past, whom that teacher had helped.

⏩The boy greeted his teacher with respect. He was looking down. His eyes showed respect. He shared about his whereabouts and career. Asked about the well being of his teacher and took permission before leaving.

The friend of the teacher said, "Mr.Sahai, I've always admired the kind of person you are. But now, respect for you have increased many folds after this incident."

They both finished their meals silently amd smiling.

Coming to the point:

⏩You employ a teaching machine. It will follow the logic. If it was this machine instead of that teacher, it would have followed a logic and marked that boy absent for every class he missed.

Alright, you may argue, that, how about artificial intelligence. I agree. It might solve the problem to some extent. But what about human values?

Will you ever respect a machine?

Will you get the same feeling that you have with a human teacher?

⏩A teacher-student relationship is very important in terms of grooming the student for day-to-day life. They learn together to be emotionally involved in someone's success, someone's failure, someone's joy, being someone's support.

Answer:

can a machine be a good teacher?

It is a much known fact that in this modern age, technology is replacing almost everything. We do not need papers and pens, as software can be used to write on, we do not need physical books because of the advent of e-books and PDFs. So, the question arises – Can this modern technology replace teachers too? Is this technology sophisticated enough to teach children the way virtual teachers do? Is the need of human teachers being eliminated?

Everyone has a different perception. But what I believe is that the answer to the above stated arguments is a big ‘No’. Technology cannot replace a teacher. Technology is merely an augmentation to a teacher. It can help the process of learning, but it certainly cannot replace the role of the teacher.

Technology can make it easy to get educated by sitting at home but that education too is provided by a teacher. Even in online courses, we see that teachers are necessary to give lectures, whether in the form of videos, tutorials, Skype sessions, etc. Children still need to learn computers to operate those online sessions, which of course are taught by teachers.

It is significant that we remember, a teacher is more than just a facilitator of knowledge. A teacher also acts as a guide, a mentor and an inspiration for students, a role that cannot be replaced by technology of any kind. Taking critical skills into account like decision making, time management etc, a child needs a teacher as the technology cannot teach these human skills.

It is much obvious that technology is assisting students in their learning and it is playing a crucial role in the field of education. But, as of now, it does not have the power to replace teachers because human interaction cannot be replaced by computers and human skills cannot be taught by technology.
