can a molecule of an element be same as its atom ?why?

To form a molecule, you'll need at least two atoms. So an atom by itself can not be a molecule. Examples for elements that are incapable of molecule formation (under normal conditions) are Nobel gases. They are monoatomic gases.

An atom is just that, a single atom, made from protons, neutrons and electrons. A molecule is a group of atoms bonded together via ionic, metallic or covalent bonding. The lowest amount of atoms needed here is two....
