The adrenal glands (small glands that sit atop the kidneys) are the major player in the body's stress response. They respond to stress by secreting hormones like adrenaline and cortisol.

the two adrenal glands are arguably best known for secreting the hormone adrenaline, which rapidly prepares your body to spring into action in a stressful situation.

Electrical impulses to instruct to prepare the tissue to met out emergency situation of emotional stress would be limited. For this, chemical signals are also required to reach all cells of the body and  provide the wide ranging changes needed.  This is done by adrenaline hormone secreted from the adrenal glands.

Adrenal is secreted directly into the blood and carried to different parts of the body.
