Can an object having constant mass maintain uniform velocity when net force acting on it is not zero?
1)Not possible
2)Yes,if force is in the direction of velocity.
3)Some other reason.

1) Not possible .

Let's see a detailed explanation :

  • Let's assume that a body of mass 'm' kg is moving with a uniform velocity of 'u' m/s.

  • Now, whenever there is an unbalanced force acting on the body, the velocity of the body is bound to change and hence the object will not be able to maintain a uniform velocity.

  • Unbalanced force in other word means net force, which will change the velocity of the body.

Now, 2nd option is incorrect because :

  • Whenever the direction of the net force is parallel to the direction of velocity, the object will experience change in velocity and hence not be able to maintain a constant velocity.

SO, FOR UNIFORM VELOCITY, NET FORCE ALWAYS HAS TO BE ZERO !
