Kernplasm Theory:- Kern plasma theory was proposed by Hertwig.that a definite relation as to size normally exists in every cell between the mass of nuclear material and that of the protoplasm.

Karyoplasm index = Volume of nucleusVolume of cytoplasm.

Karyoplasm index of small cells is high as they have less cytoplasm, so nucleus controls these cells efficiently. However, in large cells, the cytoplasm is more, so nucleus fails to control the cytoplasm in them. That is why, they divide into two cells to attain control of nucleus on metabolism.
