Winnowing is the process in which lighter particles are carried away by wind and heavier particles fall down thus separating the two particles. It is used mainly for separating grains from husk .

Sieving is the process which is used to separate of different sizes for example while separating tea leaves from boiled tea then a sieve is used to separate the teat leaves leaving only the boiled tea .
