Condition - 1:

Let the cost price be 'x'.

Given total number of articles = 16.

Then, the cost price of 16 articles = 16x.

Given that he gives 1 article free for buying every 15 articles and thus gains 35%.

(i)

S.P of 15 articles = [(100 + Gain%)/100] * CP

= > (135/100) * 16x

= > (2160/100) * x

= > (108x/5).

Then,

Selling price of 1 article = (108x/5) * (1/15)

= > 108x/75

= > 36x/25.     ------- (1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition - 2:

Given that he gives 4% discount on the marked price.

Let the marked price of the article be 100.

We know that Marked price = [100/(100 - Discount%)] * SP

= > (100/96) * (36x/25)

= > (144x/96)

= > 3x/2.

Hence,

% increase in marked price:

= > [(Marked price - Cost price)/Cost price] * 100

= > \frac{\frac{3x}{2} - x}{x} * 100

= > (\frac{3x - 2x}{2x}) * 100

=> (\frac{x}{2}) * 100

= > 50%.

Therefore, the answer is 50% - Option (C).

Hope this helps!
