Apartheid System:

• Apartheid was a political and social system in South Africa during the era of White minority rule.
• Under the system, the people of South Africa were divided by their race and the different races were forced to live separately from each other.
• There were laws in place to ensure that segregation was abided by.
• During apartheid, to have a friendship with someone of a different race generally brought suspicion upon you, or worse.
• More severely disadvantaged the majority of the population, simply because they did not share the skin colour of the rulers.
• Many were kept just above destitution because they were 'non-white'.
