Methene must supposedly have the structure

CH2

The valency of hydrogen is 1 and it makes single bonds with carbon and it cannot make double bond with carbon.

So only two valencies of carbon is completed.

But carbon has 4 valencies.

So methene does not exist.

The first member of alkene series is ethene and not methene

HOPE THIS HELPS!!
