Hey there..!
Chapter 1
The narrator J, is smoking in his room with his friends, George and William Samuel Harris. All are referred as hypochondriacs but mostly J, are chatting about their latest illness and are scared that they'll die soon.
In a flashback, J remembers how he once went to the British Museum to read Liver Pill. After reading it he started assuming that he had all the illness except housemaid's knee. So he went to visit his friend who was a doctor and told him the entire story. The doctor prescribed him beefsteak, beer, walking and good sleeping habits. And not to worry much about anything.
but still he felt that he had all the diseases and was really concerned about his liver problem.
The three friends then decided to take a vacation together to restore their health.
Chapter 2
The men begin to plan for their boat trip. George and J wanted to camp along the river, believing that sleeping outside will offer a true escape from the city. But Montmorency will prefer hotels because they offer more excitements and stables that the dog can run around it. But he is actually a hyperactive troublemaker.
The men leave for a pub, to further discuss arrangements for the trip.
Chapter 3
At the pub, they compile a list of things they need to pack. Harris volunteers but later on ends up making a very big list. J compares Harris to that of Uncle Podger, who always volunteers to help others but end up creating a mess.
George then suggests that they should carry the things only which they cant do without.
Chapter 4
Continuing to plan, the friends decide what they will need for cooking. For breakfast and lunch they chose food that is easy to cook- but not cheese because of its strong smell.
J narrates a story about how his friend Tom had asked him to carry the cheese and because of its stinky smell it caused a big chaos.
Harris and George watch J pack with great amusement and volunteer to pack the food when J finally finishes.
Chapter 5
However, they oversleep, when Mrs.Poppets comes in at 9. J concocts a hypothetical story about staying inside when the forecasts predict rain and missing a beautiful day.
When they finally depart, the greengrocer's errand-boy mocks them for their immense amount of luggage. As the men wait for a taxi, passers-by speculate where they are going.
Hope this helps! :)
