Mr. Gilman was the principal of Cambridge School. His lessons made learning quite easier as it was not mechanical note taking system that ultimately bores students. He was kind and warm hearted. He permitted Mildred to study at Cambridge as he knew it would be a moral-booster for Helen. During examinations, he acted as an interpreter for Helen. Though being so busy, he read out what Helen had written for improvement. A sincere concern for Helen made him feel that Helen was over- stressed (which may affect her health).

Dr. Alexander Graham Bell came in Helen's life when she was 6 years old. Dr. bell advised Helens family to contact Perkins Institute for blind. Dr. bell remained a good friend of Helen throughout her life. He accompanied her and Miss Sullivan on a trip to World's fair.
