The value of x will be -8/9.

This can easily be solved by firstly breaking x^2 - 1 into (x+1)(x-1) using the algebraic identity .

Then we will take LCM in the left hand side and one term of the LCM will get cut by the denominator of right hand side and then by cross multiplication we can solve and find the value of x very easily as shown in the attachment.
