The formula of average is...

average =  \frac{sum \: of \: observations}{no. \: of \: observations}

Suppose,

If we get a question as......

Find the average of 2,6,5,9,4 and 1.

Then we may write the answer as GIVEN below...

Answer :-

The Given Observations are 2, 6, 5, 9, 4, and 1.

No. of observations = 6

We know that,

average =  \frac{sum \: of \: observations}{no. \: of \: observations}

Then,

average =  \frac{2 + 6 + 5 + 9 + 4 + 1}{6}  \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  \frac{27}{6}  \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  = 4.5

Therefore,

Average of 2,6,5,9,4 and 1 = 4.5

HOPE THIS HELPS...
