STRUCTURE OF EYE
Light enters the eye through cornea most of the refraction of light occurs in this membrane. Diameter of eye is 2.3cm . Image is formed on retina. Crystalline lens provides adjustment of focal length. Iris controls the amount of light entering the eye.
POWER OF ACCOMMODATION
the ability of eye lens to adjust it's focal length is called accommodation. When ciliary muscles relax lens become thin and when they contract lens become thick. Range of vision of normal eye is between 25cm and infinity.
DEFECTS OF VISION
MYOPIA- near sightedness.
Causes -1 elongation of eyeball
2 excessive curvature of eye lens.
CORRECTION - concave lens is used for its correction
HYPERMETROPIA- far sightedness
Causes- 1 the eyeball becomes too small 2 the focal length of eyelens increases. CORRECTION - CONVEX LENS IS USED
PRESBYOPIA- IT arises due to weakening of ciliary muscles.
Correction- bi focal lens
DISPERSION OF LIGHT- the splitting of light into its component colours. White light is composed of 7 colours (vibgyor).
STARS TWINKLE because of refraction of star light and the amount of starlight entering our eyes flickers.
SUN IS VISIBLE TO US 2 MIN BEFORE ACTUAL SUNRISE AND 2 MIN AFTER SUNSET.
TYNDALL EFFECT - WHEN a beam of light strikes some fine particles present in air it's path become visible
RED LIGHT HAS LARGE WAVELENGTH AND BLUE LIGHT HAS SMALL WAVELENGTH. FINE PARTICLES SCATTER BLUE LIGHT AND LARGE PARTICLES SCATTER RED LIGHT
