it means that
 {hieght}^{2}  +  {base}^{2}  =  {hypotenuse }^{2}
in some questions you will find that you have to find hypotenuse (side opposite to right angle of triangle)so use pythagoras theoram

base is the lower side
and height is the side of right angle of triangle.
