no u r wrong... ur finding area of shaded portion but you have to find the area white portion
aapko area white part ka nikalna hai shaded portion ka nhi .... aap question ko 1 baar dhyan sai pdhiyai ... :)

let the white area be in triangle shape then it will be a right angle triangle
area of 1 triangle = 1/2 × base ×height
= 1/2 ×2 ×2
=2 cm square
area of 4 triangle = 4 ×2
= 8 cm square
ans ... 8 cm square approximately
