Can the pattern of matter we call thoughts affect matter? Yes. This is the difference of walking the walk and not just talking the talk, or more precise thinking the thought. Because some thought just do accomplish much.
but what is a thought made of? And why do we have them?
The idea that there is a little person in your head or a unified soul which think, that’s a pretty good describtion of how it feel like to have an internal monologue. But even thoug you feel like conducting a train of thought and most importantly brag about it and take the responsibility for it. The other parts of you mind are laying the tracks ahead, shovel fuel in the engine, controll the passengers tickets and paints the scenery. When we thank the conductor for a good ride, it's the same way we praise the director of a good business.
The he speech module have gotten its share of intellectual praise ever since an old guy said “the unexamined Life is not worth living” or the other dude which said “I think therefore I am”. But when the conductor goes home, there is still a lot to be done. But it takes place in silence. There is nothing it’s like to be en a dreamless sleep. But out of sight out of mind, is not true in this case.

Thoughts is used in the space of giving and challenging reasons. Also called heterophenomenology, which is the study of what other people say they think. And of cause not all thought are verbal, but the way we come to know what other people think is most verbal in our society.
We talk the talk to much. Paying lip serve is a common theme in academia and management and seldom gets a reality check on how our thoughts affect matter.
