can anyone explain about langmuir and lewis concept
Answers
Answer:
Langmuir , in 1919 improved the Lewis concept by suggesting that when both the atoms taking part in a chemical combination are short of electrons than the nearest noble gas configuration , they can share their electrons in order to complete their octet.
Explanation:
But later on there were so many exceptions to this concept like BF3 is stable but it doesn't have any octet (it has sextet of electrons) and coordination complexes possess more than 8 electrons in their valence shells still are stable and these exceptions led it's failure to explain the same.
Covalent bond –Lewis Langmuir concept : Langmuir , in 1919 improved the Lewis concept by suggesting that when both the atoms taking part in a chemical combination are short of electrons than the nearest noble gas configuration , they can share their electrons in order to complete their octet.
