language policy was a test to Indian democratic politics. Indian constitution does not gives the status of national language to any of the language, because the constitution makers did not wanted to hurt anyone's centiments. Hindi is only the official language of the country. until 1965 English was used for official purposes but govt was about to use hindi for official purposes. a candidate appearing for central examination can write the exam in any one of the languages. this took a violent movement in TN, they demanded to continue the use of english instead of hindi. but the govt responded that both hindi and english would be used for official purposes
