Cross cutting- when a social difference cross cuts another difference .
For example - In Netherlands, class and religion tend to cut- across each other's as Catholics and Protestants are about equally likely to be poor and rich.
Overlapping- When a social difference overlaps another difference.
For example- Difference between Blacks and the Whites in USA is a overlapping difference because the Blacks tend to be poor , homeless and discriminated.
