Answer:

for balancing a chemical equation, the number of atoms on both sides of the reaction must be same

Explanation:

bcz of law of conservation of mass, where of atoms of same element on both sides is same

E.g.-

Na + H2O --------- NaOH + H2

1) here there is 1 atom of sodium on both sides.

2) 2 atoms of hydrogen on LHS and 3 on RHS.

3) there is a single atom of oxygen in both sides.

seeing 2) we need to balance hydrogen

Inserting 2 before hydrogen on LHS means there are 4 (2X2) atoms and 2 atoms of oxygen

multiply 2 to NaOH on RHS so that there are 2 atoms of oxygen

Now there is also 2 atoms of Na, so insert 2 on LHS for Na

BALANCED REACTION IS

2Na + 2H2O ------ 2NaOH + H2

if this isn't understandable go check class 10 Ka ncert
