What is Refractive Index?

➡️Refractive index is the ratio of the speed of light in a given pair of media that gives us a measure of the extent of refraction (or bending) of a ray of light as it goes from one medium to another.

Thanks for the question.

sankhlaucp2pl7u: Refractive index can be linked to an important physical quantity, i.e. relative speed of propagation of light in different media.

Speed of light in vacuum ( or air) / speed of light in the given medium.

Can't get any easier than this.

sankhlaucp2pl7u: Speed of light in air amd without air ( vaccum) . medium is the plave through which anything can travel. So ? light travels through air ( medium).
