Can anyone explain me the concept of electrodes i.e anode and cathode... what they are and... how ions are passed. for eg- In chloroalkali process chlorine gas is given at anode and sodium hydroxide is formed near thw cathode...please explain nicely

Explanation:

electrodes are the rods ( graphite) through which electric current is passed this process is called as electrolysis process

anode means negative charge

cathode means positive charge

Na-11(at no.)

looses one electron from its outermost shell to get octet configuration as Neon-10 and forms Na+

Cl-9

gains one electron to get octet configuration as neon 10 and forms Cl-

now

Na+ + Cl- gives rise to NaCl

NaCl is commonly used in our daily life which is called as SALT
