can anyone explain the function of appendices epiplocae on the surface of large intestine

They are chiefly appended to the transverse m sigmoid parts of the colon,however, their function is unknown.T he appendages can become inflamed,a benign but a painfull process known as epiploic appendicitis and other conditions.
