Answer:

In the laboratory, H2 is usually prepared by the reaction of acids on metals such as zinc with Kipp's apparatus. The electrolysis of water is a simple method of producing hydrogen. A low voltage current is run through the water, and gaseous oxygen forms at the anode while gaseous hydrogen forms at the cathode.

Hydrogen can be obtained in laboratory by the action of dilute sulphuric  acid or dilute hydrochloric acid on zinc granules.

Take zinc granules in a bottle and fix a two holes in the cork. Now from one hole fit a thistle funnel and from second hole of cork fix delivery tube. Now add dil.sulphuric acid through thistle funnel. Dil.H2SO4 reacts with zinc to liberate H2 gas. this released gas is collected by downward displacement of water.

Reacting Zinc with Acid

One common way to prepare dihydrogen gas in the lab is by reacting Zinc with a diluted acid. It results in Zinc forming Zinc Sulphate (or zinc chloride) and releasing hydrogen in a gas form

Zn + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2

Zn +HCl → ZnCl2 + H2
