Can anyone explain the law of Inertia clearly.

The law of Inertia or the first law of motion states -
An object will remain in rest or motion in same speed and direction until an external force is applied to it.
According to this law the inertia of an object describes the laziness of the object. The object stays at rest until some external force is given to it. The object remains in motion until an external force is used to stop it.

inertia is the capability of an object to oppose or resist any applied force on it ..... it is generally seen that if we hit an object at rest , it pretends to be at rest ... for example, if we kick a football it flies away and similarly if we kick a stone of same size with equal force,it hardly moves
the first law of motion states that an object remains at rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled to change that state by an applied force
