okay so, u know that when there is a negative sign we move towards the left on the number line. and when positive, we move towards right.

basically if you solve

1 + (-1). you will move once towards the left of the number "1" then where will u reach? you will reach 0.

in conclusion, any number when added to a number which would give us 0, is known as the additive inverse.

examples: 5 is the additive inverse of -5.

thats also the reason why in equations when we get x and -x, we cancel them out.

in easy words..if it is givin qny number and you have to find the additive inverse, just change the sign. if its is '+' makd it '-' and vica-versa
