Zygote is a fertilized egg cell that is the result of the fusion of male(sperm) and female(ovum) gamete.

It is a diploid cell.

After fertilisation, the zygote undergoes repeated mitotic division called cleavage. After 4-5 days of fertilisation, zygote becomes a multicellular structure called Blastocyst . The blastocyst gets attached to the uterine wall after 7th day of fertilisation. This process is called Implantation . After implantation, a placenta is developed between the embryo and the uterine wall.

This period between fertilisation and baby birth is called Gestation period . It is approximately 280 days in humans.
