"A thing of beauty is a joy forever."

This is a poem composed by a popular English poet John Kets. This poem is just a first stanza of a longer poem Endymion based on Greek mythology. The poem turned out to be so appealing and famous that its first line became a proverb in English.

The central idea of the poem is that everything in the nature is so beautiful that it gives us unending joy. Though there are negative things; these beautiful things nullify their negative effect. Poet also says that this things of beauty are like unending founder of immortal drink. As the poem presents many imageries, it becomes appealing.

The rhyming scheme of extract is : aabbccdd except the last lines. This gave a special rhythm of verses to the poem. The beautiful imageries such as 'quiet bower' ; 'Daffodils with green world' create a beautiful world picture of nature.

The poet has used different figures of speech, too to increase poetic effect. "A thing of beauty is joy forever" is epigram whereas "Trees old and young sprouting a shady born" is Antithesis.

The poem gives a philosophical message to me that go to nature and recieve unending inspiration. Though it has used symbolic language, the poem is very meaningful. The first line of the poem is the most appealing to me because of its truthful meaning.
