LET X BE THE ONES DIGIT AND Y BE THE TENS.

NOW, X + Y = 12. (1)

AND,. 10Y + X - 18 = 10X +Y

9Y - 9X = 18

Y - X = 2 (2)

ON SOLVING 1 AND 2

Y = 7

X = 5

NUMBER = 75 OR 57 DEPENDING ON THE DIGITS PLACEMENT.

SOLUTION: -

》 We have a two-digit number, x.

✪ Note :- we write any two digit number this way, x = 10a + b, for some integers a and b

》We are given that the sum of the digits of x is 12.

》Therefore , a + b = 12.

When we reverse the digits, we have y = 10b + a. (y is a new number)

We know that y = x - 18.

》x = y + 18.

The system of equations will be ,

a + b = 12 ; x = y + 18.

Solve for a by substitution method,

Now , a = 12 - b.

》From x = y + 18, we have 10a + b = 10b + a + 18.

Now substitute a with 12 - b,

=> 10(12 - b) + b = 10b + 12 - b + 18

=>  120 - 9b = 9b +30

=>  18b = -90

=> b = 5

Now as we found the value of b , we can find a,

》  a = 12 - b

= 12 - 5 = 7.

》AS, x = 10a + b,

x = 10(7) + 5 = 75.

To double check:-

y = 57 & 75 - 57 = 18
