I made many other friends - one-rupee, two rupees and five rupees coins. One day I was given to one man in a transaction who came to the bank. As soon as I was given into his hands he picked me up from his palm with happy and cheerful eyes and put me in a separate pocket. I was feeling very proud that I was the most handsome coin among all other coins.

But one day my keeper got pick pocketed and I fell into the hands of a rogue. He stuffed me in with his other dirty coins. I was feeling horrified. But one day I felt relieved when the rogue gave me to a panwala for a cigarette. As I was a shiny coin the shopkeeper kept me in a separate box. There I met many of my old friends who were released from the mint on the same day. Then when there was a shortage of coins, I was given away to a lady. Her purse was very soft and smelled of perfume. She kept me in a corner of her purse. There were many almost faded one-rupee, two-rupee coins. I often used to make fun of them but they kept quiet.

my life began when I was issued from a government mint and paid over the counter of a bank along with other rupees to a doctor who got a check encased. He put me into his first purse and went home.
But I was not destined to remain long with him. He paid me to a green grocer in exchange for fruits and vegetables. He looked pleased with my smart appearance, but thinking that appearances are often deceptive he put me on the ground to see if I was genuine. I gave out such a clear ringing sound that he picked me up from the ground and threw me into his cash box where there were many coins already.
I remained with the greengrocer for about the year because he like my bright appearance so much that he did not like to part with me. One day when he was away his servant give me in change to a merchant who put me into his pocket. He soon gave me away in charity to a beggar.
The poor beggar kept me in his pocket for many days till he paid me to a cloth merchant in return for a piece of cloth. I then passed rapidly from hand to hand, from pocket to pocket and from purse to purse. I lived an active life for about 30 years till I was worn. The effigy of the king on my face became faint and the lettering on my back became almost out. Who ever came in possession of me turned up his nose at me.
At last I passed into the hands of a miser, my present master. He put me into his safe, where I found 2,000 more of my own kind . He opens the safe every morning to look at me and my companions. He does not want to part with me. What a dull and miserable life I am leading now! I pray to God to release me from my prison house.
